We are an Apostolate of the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of St. Nicholas in Chicago. We are a Catholic community following the Ukrainian-Byzantine ritual tradition in full communion with the Catholic Church. Our temporary chapel is located in the former St. Joseph School located at 3rd and Van Buren in Topeka, Kansas. Service times are as indicated. We also celebrate monthly services in Lawrence, Kansas at the St. Lawrence Catholic Campus Center (see schedule).
The Adminsitrator for the Apostolate is Fr. Deacon Randolph L. Brown. The Apostolate was formally established by His Grace, Bishop +Richard Stephen Seminack, Bishop of the Eparchy of St. Nicholas, in May, 2008.
We began the Apostolate with prayer in individual homes of those interested in our Kyivan-Byzantine liturgical tradition, with such services as Compline, Molebens and Akathists. The Apostolate has grown organically from prayer in homes to our current interim chapel.
His Grace Archbishop +Joseph Naumann of the Archdiocese of Kansas City has blessed our community to use the former St. Joseph’s School. We are the first canonically established Eastern Catholic presence in the Archdiocese of Kansas City, and are especially grateful for the past support and generosity of Fr. Carl Dekat of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
We generally have weekly services primarily in English. Visit us often! Contact Fr. Deacon or Pani Matka at nikolaibr@sbcglobal.net if you have any further questions.
“Since, in fact, we believe that the venerable and ancient tradition of the Eastern Churches is an integral part of the heritage of Christ’s Church, the first need for Catholics is to be familiar with that tradition, so as to be nourished by it…” Pope John Paul II, Orientale Lumen, 1995.
The Apostolate is under the protection of the New Martyrs of Ukraine beatified on June 27, 2001.
